A Civic Entrepreneur for the Next Generation of Citizens
Growing up in Bucks provided much inspiration from its history – and informed Andrew’s civic minded outlook he holds today. His first job was as a newspaper carrier “paper boy” with The Intelligencer in Doylestown. In Philadelphia, Andrew taught immigrants English as a Second Language with the South Philadelphia Literacy Project (SPLP), and as a young professional in Washington, DC, he provided pro bono support to DC Appleseed’s Working Poor Families Project. More recently, Andrew founded a local civic organization —Civic Innovation Campaign — designed to bring new innovations and new ways to engage the next generation. In this capacity, Andrew has worked along side many national, regional and local organization on many generational challenges to civic, democratic, and political participation, including the ListenFirst Project, BridgeUSA, Generation Citizen, Business for America, Citizen University, the American Exchange Project, the National Conference on Citizenship (NCOC), and the Ben Franklin Project. Locally, he led organizing efforts to bring Citizen University’s first “Civic Saturday” to Doylestown, has worked with student and faculty leaders of Delaware Valley University with the advent of a new Civic Club, and has collaborated with numerous Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs across the County.
Andrew has also proudly assumed leadership positions as the Board Chairmen of Kennedy Democrats, Vice Chair of Turn Bucks Blue, and was elected to a Democratic committee position in Upper Makefield. In these capacities, Andrew played a role in flipping the PA State House Blue for the first time in over a decade — and making history as State Rep. Joanna McClinton elected Speaker of the House of Representative as the first Black woman ever to hold this position in Pennsylvania. He also currently sits on the Executive Committee of Bucks Voices and the Upper Makefield Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB).
A Writer and Speaker on Building a Better Democracy
Andrew is also the author of Engaged, a personal reflection on civic and political engagement and their importance to American democracy. After a decade of engagement with civic organizations and political campaigns, he was inspired to investigate, learn and write about how to revive our citizens' belief and involvement in American democracy. His work has been featured in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, the Bucks County Courier Times, and the University of Pennsylvania Gazette. Andrew has been a featured speaker on civic engagement with several notable organizations including Everyday Democracy and Penn State’s McCourtney Institute of Democracy.
